A Day in the Life of a Nursing Associate: Coming This November

We’re excited to officially announce a brand-new YouTube series from Just a Sharp Scratch — A Day in the Life of a Nursing Associate. Filming begins in July 2025, and we cannot wait to bring you along for the journey.

This unique video project will follow Nursing Associates across the country, offering an honest, on-the-ground look at their daily work in settings like general practice, hospitals, community services, mental health, and beyond. It’s designed to give the public — and even other healthcare professionals — a true insight into what this role looks like in action.

Why We’re Doing This

The Nursing Associate role has grown rapidly since its introduction to the NHS, yet public understanding and internal recognition remain inconsistent. Too often, Nursing Associates are misunderstood, underutilised, or mistaken for either HCAs or RNs. This series aims to challenge that by putting the spotlight on real Nursing Associates, doing real work, in real time.

It’s more than just day-in-the-life footage — it’s a platform to tell stories that deserve to be heard. We want to highlight the skill, compassion, and versatility that Nursing Associates bring to every care setting, as well as the challenges they face and the breakthroughs they drive.

What to Expect

Each episode will feature one Nursing Associate, filmed over the course of their working day. Through interviews, behind-the-scenes access, and natural footage of their clinical environments, viewers will gain a richer understanding of how the role fits within the multidisciplinary team — and why it matters now more than ever.

The series will cover a range of specialisms and locations to reflect the diversity of the role nationwide. Whether it’s managing long-term conditions in general practice, supporting mental health pathways, or working side by side with registered nurses in acute care, each story will bring something new.

Filming Starts in July

We’ll begin filming in July 2025 and plan to release the series in November, coinciding with key workforce and healthcare awareness campaigns. With the backing of NHS England, this project marks an important step in educating the public and celebrating the profession at scale.

We’re proud to say the production is being handled entirely in-house — from filming and editing to post-production and promotion — and it’s being created by someone who understands the role from the inside out.

A Bigger Picture

This YouTube series is just the start. Just a Sharp Scratch has always been about raising the voices of those who don’t always get the recognition they deserve. Alongside the main podcast and our international mini-series, The Extra Dose, this new video project will expand how we tell stories — visually, honestly, and with impact.
